FMCSA Delays Training Certification and Verification Portions of Entry-Level Driver Training Rule
July 18, 2019
Confronted with IT challenges, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has published a notice delaying portions of the Entry-Level Driver Training rules, set to be implemented on February 7, 2020. Specifically, FMCSA says training providers won’t need to upload drivers’ certificates of completion to the FMCSA until February 7, 2022. Similarly, States will have until then to verify that drivers have completed training before they allow them to take the skills test required to obtain a CDL. In doing so, FMCSA has allayed concerns from the motor carrier industry that drivers would be required to bring the certificates with them to the state licensing agency to schedule their skills test.
