Embedded Tech Leads to Increase in North Carolina Tire Violations
February 23, 2022

Since North Carolina deployed Tire Anomaly and Classification Technology, which identifies various tire defects using technology embedded in the roadway near roadside inspection stations in 2018, violations for "tire flat or fabric exposed" has more than doubled from 2031 violations in to more than 4900 in 2021. The violation is now the third most common vehicle violation in North Carolina, accounting for approximately 10% of all vehicle violations written. Virginia and Illinois have also had success with deploying this system.
