During a recent podcast, STC was asked to comment on Ray Martinez’s tenure as the FMCSA Administrator. The interviewer asked if his legacy would be tied to more flexible HOS rules, a change process he started while leading FMCSA. While that may be part of his legacy, STC believes he will be remembered and appreciated by many for:

1. His strong desire to engage and collaborate with all stakeholders
2. His willingness to travel far and wide to communicate the “whats and whys” of
   FMCSA’s agenda
3. His strong leadership skills,
4. And, to a lesser degree, but important to STC, his open-door meeting policy.

Future FMCSA Administrators, no matter the party affiliation, would do well to follow the “collaboration and open communication” path set by Administrator Martinez.
