Winter driving is a dangerous challenge requiring focus and precision. That’s what makes new data from NHTSA so surprising. From 2011-2020, only 23% of fatal large truck crashes occurred in winter, compared to fall and summer, which experienced a 27% share each. In fact, for 9 of 10 years included in the analysis, winter was the least likely time of year for a large truck crash.
