- CVSA recently sent a letter to FMCSA requesting the public release of its enforcement guidance related to evaluating a driver’s compliance with the English language proficiency requirements of 391.11(b)(2), FMCSA Enforcement Policy Memo MC-SEE-2025-0001. It cites that doing so will improve transparency and better inform the motor carrier community of how to ensure their drivers comply with the ELP requirements.
- Brake Safety Week, conducted August 24-30, resulted in 15,175 inspections and 2,296 (15.1%) brake-related out-of-service violations identified. The top OOS item was because 20% or more of the vehicle’s service brakes had an out-of-service condition. Fifteen states with performance-based brake testers (PBBT) conducted 528 inspections. Twenty-five (4.7%) vehicles failed to meet the required 43.5% minimum braking efficiency rate.
- According to FMCSA data, the false log violations issued at roadside has increase more than 169% from 2018 levels. Meanwhile, roadside inspections have decreased by almost 15%.
